From the first South Sudanese families who made Houston home, through years of community building, challenges, loss, and reflection, our journey is one of resilience and renewal. In 2024, a renewed call brought the community together to rebuild with greater unity, responsibility, and purpose—laying the foundation for the birth of SSCO Houston and a new chapter for generations to come.

Genji graduated with Honors from UTMB as a medical doctor and is persuing a career in Internal Medicine. Passionate about serving others, she is committed to using her medical expertise to make a meaningful difference in our Community

Membership
(1) Eligibility
Any person 18 years or older who identifies with or supports the South Sudanese community in Houston and agrees to SSCO’s principles and wish to contribute to its mission.
(2) Membership Benefits
- Participation in community meetings and decision-making actions.
- Direct access to educational, cultural, youth, family, and community programs.
- Opportunities to serve, volunteer, and contribute to community initiatives.
- Connection to community resources, information, and support opportunities.
(3) Registration
Joining SSCO involves completing our online membership registration form, and fulfilling the registration and annual dues, as established under SSCO constitution. Registered members become part of SSCO's official membership record.
TRANSPARENCY
CONSTITUTION AND BYLAWS
SSCO operates under a community-structured constitution and bylaws, collaboratively developed to reflect principles of accountability, transparency, and inclusion.
Leadership Structure
Executive Office – Elected officials representing South Sudanese regions and families in Houston.
Board of Directors (Oversight Committee) – Provides guidance, planning, and oversight.
Board of Elders – Ensures cultural and ethical integrity.
Sub Committees & Offices – Coordinate Community activities and outreach.
Legal Status
SSCO is a registered nonprofit organization and recognized as a 501(c) tax-exempt organization, operating in accordance with its Constitution & Bylaws and applicable state and federal requirements.
